AirTag vs Tile — Best Bluetooth Tracker in 2025
How I Tested
I put an AirTag and a Tile Pro on the same keychain and carried them for 45 days. I also placed one of each in my checked luggage on 4 flights and in my backpack for daily commuting. The goal: compare real-world finding accuracy, range, and reliability in identical conditions.

Apple AirTag 4-Pack
Ultra Wideband precision finding via the Find My network (2 billion Apple devices). Replaceable CR2032 battery lasts ~1 year. IP67 water resistant.
Finding Precision — AirTag Wins Big
The AirTag's Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip is the defining advantage. When you're within ~30 feet, your iPhone shows a precise directional arrow and distance reading: "12 feet, to your left." I tested this by hiding an AirTag in my apartment 20 times. Average time to find: 18 seconds.
The Tile Pro uses Bluetooth only — no UWB. It can tell you the tracker is "nearby" and play a sound, but there's no directional guidance. Same hiding test: average time to find with Tile was 52 seconds, and in three cases I had to rely entirely on the audible ring because Bluetooth proximity was too vague.
For luggage at airports, the AirTag's Find My integration showed me exactly which carousel my bag was on before it appeared. The Tile showed "last seen at airport" — helpful, but far less precise.
Bluetooth Range
In open-air testing (a park with line of sight), the Tile Pro had slightly longer Bluetooth range: approximately 400 feet versus the AirTag's 330 feet. In real-world conditions with walls, that difference disappeared — both dropped connection around 50-80 feet indoors.
Crowd-Sourced Network Size
This is the other massive AirTag advantage. Apple's Find My network includes over 2 billion active Apple devices. Any iPhone, iPad, or Mac that passes near your AirTag silently reports its location to you.
Tile's network is much smaller — limited to people who have the Tile app installed. In practice, this meant my Tile updated its "last seen" location far less frequently when I was separated from it. During a test where I left both trackers at a coffee shop and walked away, the AirTag reported a location update within 3 minutes. The Tile took 47 minutes.
Battery & Maintenance
Both use replaceable CR2032 batteries — about $1 each. AirTag battery lasts approximately 1 year. Tile Pro is rated at 1 year as well. Neither requires charging, which is a meaningful advantage over rechargeable alternatives. I haven't needed to replace either battery during my 45-day test.
Ecosystem Lock-In
Here's the catch: AirTags only work with iPhones. You need an iPhone to set up, track, and use Precision Finding. If you're on Android, AirTags are not an option.
Tile works with both iOS and Android. If your household has mixed devices, Tile is the more flexible choice. Tile also offers a subscription ($2.99/month) for features like smart alerts and extended warranty, though the free tier covers basic tracking.

Which Should You Buy?
iPhone user? Buy the AirTag. The Find My network and Precision Finding are leagues ahead.
Android user? Buy the Tile Pro. It's your best option and it works well.
If you have an iPhone, the AirTag is the obvious choice. The combination of UWB precision finding and the 2-billion-device Find My network makes it dramatically more effective at actually locating your stuff. I put AirTags on my keys, in my checked luggage, and in my everyday backpack — and they've already saved me real headaches on multiple trips.
If you're on Android, or your household has both iPhone and Android users, the Tile Pro is the better choice. It works on both platforms and the tracking is reliable enough for everyday use.
