Our Review

The JBL Go 4 has no business sounding this good at $30. It's roughly the size of a deck of cards, weighs under half a pound, and produces surprisingly full, clear sound with noticeable bass. IP67 waterproof and dustproof means it goes everywhere — shower, pool, beach, hiking. Seven hours of battery is enough for a full day out. Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity is rock-solid up to 30 feet. The integrated loop clips onto bags and belt loops. We've been carrying one daily for two months and it's become the product we recommend most often to friends.

Sound Quality for Its Size

The JBL Go 4 punches well above its weight class. The single 40mm driver produces surprising bass response for a speaker that fits in a shirt pocket — JBL's acoustic tuning avoids the tinny, hollow sound that plagues most budget micro-speakers. At 70% volume, it fills a small room or patio comfortably. At full volume, distortion creeps in, but at conversational distances the clarity holds up well. Mids are warm, highs are present without harshness, and the bass port prevents the boxiness common in this size class.

For context: the Go 4 doesn't compete with the JBL Flip 7 or Charge 6 in raw power. It's purpose-built for portability-first use cases — a travel bag, a bathroom shelf, outdoor lunches. If you need to fill a large patio or backyard, you need to step up. But for personal use within 8-10 feet, this is genuinely excellent.

IP67 & Build Quality

IP67 waterproofing means it's submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes — shower-proof, pool-splash-proof, and rain-proof with significant margin. The rubberized housing feels premium for the price point, and the integrated carabiner clip makes it genuinely useful for backpack attachment. Battery life hits 5 hours at moderate volume with a USB-C charging port (no more proprietary connectors). Bluetooth 5.3 provides a stable connection up to about 33 feet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pair two together?+
The Go 4 supports JBL Auracast for multi-speaker pairing with compatible models.
How loud does it get?+
4.2W output — surprisingly loud for outdoor use, easily fills a small room.
Can two Go 4s pair together for stereo?+
Yes — JBL's PartyBoost allows two Go 4 speakers to pair together for stereo or synchronized playback.
How does battery life hold up in real use?+
JBL claims 5 hours; real-world use at 60-70% volume typically yields 4-4.5 hours. Charges fully in about 2.5 hours via USB-C.
Is it actually waterproof for swimming?+
IP67 means it handles splashes, rain, and brief submersion well, but it's not designed for continuous underwater use. Pool-side is fine; underwater playback is not recommended.
How does it compare to the Anker Soundcore Mini?+
The JBL Go 4 has better bass and build quality; the Soundcore Mini offers slightly longer battery. Both are excellent at this price — the JBL wins on sound signature.
