The Product

16 sticks per box, 3x faster hydration via Cellular Transport Technology (CTT). Non-GMO, contains B vitamins, potassium, sodium. ~45 calories per serving.
Why I Tested This
Liquid IV claims to hydrate 2-3x faster than water alone using something called Cellular Transport Technology — essentially an optimized ratio of sodium, potassium, and glucose that helps your body absorb water more efficiently through the small intestine. The science behind oral rehydration solutions (ORS) is real and well-established by the WHO. But Liquid IV isn't a medical ORS — it's a consumer product at $1.50 per stick. Is the markup worth it?
My 60-Day Test Protocol
I tracked daily hydration using my GE Smart Scale (which estimates body water percentage) and logged energy levels on a 1-10 scale. Weeks 1-2: baseline with plain water only. Weeks 3-6: one Liquid IV stick daily (morning, mixed with 16oz water). Weeks 7-8: back to plain water. Weeks 9-10: Liquid IV again to confirm results weren't placebo.
What I Noticed
Energy: My average morning energy went from 5.8/10 (water only) to 6.9/10 during Liquid IV weeks. Not dramatic, but consistent. The biggest improvement was during workouts — I felt noticeably less drained during 45+ minute sessions, which my Garmin Venu 3S confirmed through steadier heart rate data.
Hydration metrics: My smart scale's body water percentage averaged 58.2% on plain water and 59.1% with Liquid IV. A small but measurable difference.
Taste: The Lemon Lime flavor is good — not overly sweet, not artificial-tasting. It's better than most electrolyte mixes I've tried. That said, it has 11g of sugar per serving, which isn't nothing.
Who It's Actually For
Liquid IV makes the biggest difference if you: exercise intensely, live in a hot climate, travel frequently (especially flying, which dehydrates aggressively), or just don't drink enough water. If you're already well-hydrated and sedentary, you probably won't notice much.
The Cost Problem
At $1.50/stick, daily use costs ~$45/month. That's expensive for what is essentially a well-formulated electrolyte mix. You can get similar electrolyte profiles from LMNT or plain salt + lemon water for a fraction of the cost. The convenience and taste of Liquid IV are the real value proposition, not the formula itself.
The Verdict
Worth it for active people, overkill for everyone else
Buy Liquid IV if: you work out 4+ times/week, travel often, or genuinely struggle to stay hydrated. The convenience factor is real — toss a stick in a water bottle and go.
Skip it if: you're reasonably hydrated already and looking for a magic energy boost. Plain water + a balanced diet does the job for most people.
Our rating: 4.2/5 — Effective product with solid science behind it, but the daily cost adds up fast. Use it strategically (workouts, travel, hot days) rather than daily.
